Magitech Brings Brand New Meaning to Regeneration
By: Nosihle Kgantlapane
Ever wondered how far human innovation could possibly take us, human beings having the ability to fly, or grow new limbs just like a starfish? With the growth of scientific knowledge and research, Magitech is one step closer to the evolution of human body’s ability to regenerate – bringing an exciting biological solution that could be the future of healing.
Magitech has developed a safe, effective, and accessible biologic way which allows the human to utilize its natural ability to heal itself. “How?”, you may ask- The process includes extracting amniotic membrane, made possible through the generosity of tissue donation, which then transforms tissue into reliable implants. The Nuvion line by Magitech uses carefully processed membranes, which act as a natural biological dressing.
The process provides a protective barrier, which therefore reduces inflammation and supports cell migration. This natural biological dressing and can be used in other fields such as ophthalmology to wound care and orthopedics. These biologics serve as adjuncts in surgery, helping to reduce and minimize scarring, and support optimal tissue regeneration.
According to founder and CEO of Magitech Cleo Ndlhovu, this breakthrough is important to South Africans and is a pivotal moment for the country’s science community to capitalize on, because “previous actions of relying solely on imported solutions limits our ability to innovate locally, respond quickly to healthcare challenges, and reduce treatment costs. South Africa has the scientific talent, and clinical need, to lead in regenerative medicine, but historically, we’ve lacked the infrastructure.”
Ndlhovu also believes that “more local biotech companies like them can utilize this biotechnology to help to develop processes to make a one-of-a-kind market of biotechnological inventions in South Africa.”
Magitech is excited to continue to develop their research which South Africans can find practical and simple to use; by cutting down on the duration it takes to heal any injury … all whilst looking for ways to customize healing by tailoring science to make it specific to patient’s biology, and bioinformatics.
